Server Recycling

Decommissioning servers is a logistics job as much as a recycling one. Racks have to come out, assets have to be accounted for, and every drive that leaves the building has to be traceable. At Vantage, we provide compliant server recycling and disposal, supporting everything from a single unit to a full data centre strip-out.

Server Recycling

Decommissioning and recycling servers

Servers carry more concentrated value and more concentrated risk than most IT hardware. There's high-grade material in the boards, connectors and heatsinks, and there's usually a great deal of data sitting across multiple drives, arrays and controllers.

We collect and recycle rack and tower servers, storage arrays, blade chassis, switches, routers, UPS units and associated cabling for businesses, data centers, public sector organizations, managed service providers and IT resellers.

Whether it's a handful of units or a full room to clear, we'll help find the right route.

Our Process

How it works

We start with the site. Our team confirms what's coming out, what access and lifting is involved, and how quickly it needs to happen, then arranges secure collection through approved channels. Assets can be scanned and recorded so you receive an itemised record of every unit.

Hardware is then processed at our permitted facility. Data-bearing devices are destroyed, batteries and any hazardous components are removed and routed correctly, and metals, plastics and circuit boards are recovered wherever possible.

You'll receive certificates of destruction, full documentation and complete traceability throughout.

Compliance

Compliance, sorted

Server disposal sits across WEEE obligations and data protection requirements, and a decommissioning project has duty of care attached to every load that leaves site. Our team manages the collection, documentation and recycling process on your behalf, so you have a clear audit trail from rack to final treatment.

Why Choose Vantage?

Decommissioning projects need a waste partner who can work to a programme rather than a collection round. Our own fleet ranges from vans to HGVs, and our permitted facility handles 70,000 tonnes a year, so volume and timing are rarely the constraint.

Certificates, video evidence and in-person visits are available where you need to demonstrate the process to a client, auditor or regulator.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How are servers recycled?
Servers are collected by a licensed waste carrier and processed at a permitted facility, where data-bearing drives are destroyed, batteries and hazardous components are removed, and metals, plastics and circuit boards are separated and recovered for reuse.
Is data destroyed before servers are recycled?
Yes. Data-bearing devices are processed so that data cannot be recovered, with certificates provided as evidence. Assets can also be scanned and recorded so you have an itemised report of exactly what was collected.
Can you support a data centre decommissioning project?
Yes. We can work to a project programme rather than a fixed collection schedule, sizing vehicles and collections around what is coming out and when. Speak to our team about your requirements.
What happens to electronic waste after collection?
After collection, we transport electronic waste to one of our permitted facilities where it's sorted, dismantled and processed. Valuable materials such as metals, plastics and electrical components are recovered for reuse, whilst any hazardous materials are safely removed and treated in accordance with environmental regulations.
Can waste electrical equipment be securely destroyed?
Yes. We offer secure WEEE destruction and recycling services for businesses requiring data security, brand protection or regulatory compliance. Equipment is processed through approved recycling channels and certificates can be provided where required.
Do you offer nationwide waste collection services?
Yes, we operate our own fleet collecting from over 2,500 customer collection points throughout the UK. Speak to us about your requirements for further information tailored to your business.
What containers do you provide for waste collections?
We provide a wide range of containers, including wheelie bins, drums, IBCs, stillages, pallet boxes, battery storage units, specialist airbag containers and UN-approved containers for critically damaged EV batteries. We can also provide vermiculite for safe battery storage. Our team will recommend the most suitable option based on your waste stream, storage requirements, operational needs and collection schedule.
