A BESS installation is not a single battery. It's racks of modules, cabling, inverters, control gear and enclosures, and each part needs routing to the right treatment stream. The battery modules themselves are high voltage and, once removed from a managed environment, need careful isolation, packaging and storage.

We work with energy providers, developers, installers, commercial and industrial sites, and waste operators to manage end-of-life and redundant storage systems. That includes commercial installations, grid-scale containers, back-up systems and second-life units that have reached the end of their usable capacity.

Our Process

How it works

We start with the site. Our technicians assess the system, its condition and access, then agree the isolation, packaging and lifting arrangements needed before anything moves. Damaged or unstable modules are risk assessed individually.

Modules are then transported through approved channels using our own ADR fleet and processed at authorised treatment facilities, where cells are discharged and dismantled so lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper and aluminium can be recovered. Associated WEEE, cabling and metals are separated and recycled through the appropriate streams.

You'll receive full documentation and complete traceability from site through to final treatment.

UK regulations require producers and businesses to route used portable, industrial and automotive batteries through certified operators, helping maximise material recovery while minimising environmental impact.
How do you decommission a BESS installation?
